Would anyone on a really tight budget like to share a room in a backpacker-type place near the conference venue. If we get 2-4 people, we may be able to get a whole room and key - which would help the security aspect. My email address is c.bacon@auckland.ac.nz - keen to discuss further by email.

I'm looking for accommodation from the 16th to the 21st - but am flexible about days and arrangement.

1. A great option would seem to be the YMCA Central Branch (my estimate 1km from conference). Single locking rooms so no need for us to cooperate. The downside is that they don't seem to do reservations and have not returned my email.

2. Another close hostel is:

$26 / night for 4 bed mixed dorm.

It seems to have the best location for the conference but it hasn't always had the best reviews (see link below). If we had a room for 4 of us - perhaps the areas of concern wouldn't matter to us too much.

3. There's much more choice closer to Waikiki. I think that these hostels are about 3-5km away from the conference site - although I guess transport may not be a major problem. For example:

($22-70 / night). Look at the semi-private 2 person room for $70. That could be a starter!

I'm interested in sharing, but in order to stay in a nicer hotel. I'm junior clinical faculty in Chicago and have already reserved a $289 room at the Hilton (check-in 9/15 and out 9/19). I may be willing to split unevenly for a student, therefore you'd be able to share a nicer room if you can manage around $100 per night.
